Twin town choir visit<\/p>\n
THE LIEDERKRANZ Choir from German twin town Murrhardt has sung in Frome on two occasions. This year the choir celebrates 175 years since it was foundet. The chairman of the Frome Singers, Shirley Copley, with her husband Dion and friends Roy and Joyce Golay, were invited to attend the Sunday festivities in Murrhardt on March 28. The celebrations began at 10am in the Festhalle with speeches led by Heinz Klumbach, a filmed history, an singing from all the sectors of the Liederkranz. Lunch was taken with Dr. Gerhard Strobel, Burgermeister of Murrhardt, and his wife, and Josef Nagy, Chairman of the Koroly Lenndval Choir, from Hungary, and his wife and the host families. Then it was off to the Marktplatz where the statue of the choir\u00b4s founder, Ferdinand Nagle, stands in front of the Rathaus. The statue was garlanded for the occasion and, led by the band, 18 choirs marched behind their banners. Then came the firing of pistols from the four sides of the Square and the sound of 800 voices filled the air, after which everyone marched back to the Festhalle where all the choirs entertained with a song or two. There were big an small choirs, some accompanied by the piano and some unaccompanied. With the singing over, there were refreshments for erveryone. The guests received a medallion to commemorate the occasion. While in Murrhardt the guests were taken to the Museum at Schnait, that shows the life of Friedrich Silcher, who is well known for arranging German folk music.Before leaving, talks were held to make the arrangements for the Frome Singers\u00b4visit to Murrhardt in June.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
